Member empathy is one of our five core values at SB Expos & Events, and today, we’re sharing a story that underscores why member empathy is at the core of everything we do.
This year, our client SLAS (Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening) made a deliberate effort to be more inclusive at their meetings, and one way they did this was by adding real-time AI closed captioning to their sessions. To implement this, the client used a product called Wordly, and our logistics team worked with Freeman AV to execute this feature.
A member who attended this meeting, who has a hearing impairment, sent a message afterward about how these closed captions changed their conference experience. Here is an excerpt from their email:
“THANK YOU for the closed captioning options at all the talks! The way it was done was amazing. I loved being able to scan the QR code before walking into the room for the talk and follow along on my phone.
I hope to see this continue and I wanted to be sure that whoever made sure this was included knew how much of an impact it had. It was life-changing! I felt included – You made at least one person feel seen. You improved the SLAS conference experience for me!”
For us, this story is what member empathy is all about. It isn’t just good business strategy; it’s about making a real difference in the lives of real people.
If members leave your association’s meeting feeling completely included with a renewed sense of connection to your organization, your association can reap the long-term benefits through membership renewals, committee engagement, referrals, and more.
